Panama Hosts the XIIIth International Caribbean Literary Conference

Literatureconference

If, by chance, you are going to find yourself in Panama City on the 13th through the 15th of November, you might want to stop by at the University (Universidad de Panamá) and the Hotel Panamá to become a part of what promises to be a rare and enjoyable cultural event.  It will also be a refreshing change from all the hype and promotion about Panamá as a center for commerce.

The University of Panama is, in fact, hosting the XIII International Conference on Caribbean Literature from November 13 to 15, 2013 and theme will be: “Panama in the Caribbean …the Caribbean in Panama.”

Prominent writers and academics from the United States, Central America and the Caribbean together with Panamanian writers and academics, will meet in the school of English at the University of Panama and at the Panama Hotel 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 pm for the workshop sessions.

The inauguration of this event will be held on Wednesday, November 13th at 7:00 pm in the Hotel Panama. In addition, there will be various events and cultural activities to be held the Thursday, November 14, from 6:30 PM: an Afropanamanian art exhibition and Poetry Recital at the UP art gallery 7:30 pm.

There will be an open conversation with Panamanian writers at the University library and a sampling of Afro-Panamanian documentaries at the University Movie Theater.  We, at the Silver People Heritage Foundation, are especially excited about the Poetry Recital as Roberto Reid will be one of the selected poets.

All are cordially invited.

  1. One of these days, we are going to meet eye ball-to eye-ball, Lydia. I would love to have attended, but I need at least six months’ advance notice so I can set aside the time from my health practice. I know it is going to be an uplifting event well attended. • Gee Bette, we only got notified of this about 1 ½ months ago. You know, in Panama these events are often not publicized with enough anticipation. Pero, así son las cosas en Panamá. In any case, we’re glad to see you here whenever you can come.
